What people use it for

  • Teachers and classrooms

Give reading, quizzes or group work a visible end time. Full screen puts the countdown on a projector, while Silent lets you finish without a bell.

  • Cooking

Set six minutes for eggs, or a longer timer for baking and resting meat. Leave the tab open while following a recipe elsewhere; the selected sound plays at zero.

  • Workouts and intervals

Time a plank, stretch or rest period. The countdown is recalculated from the clock, so switching tabs does not add drift to the interval.

  • Study and focus

Try a 25-minute focus block followed by a five-minute break. A visible countdown makes the end of each session easy to judge.

  • Meetings and presentations

Give speakers a fixed slot or time each agenda item. Put the display full screen on a second monitor so the remaining time is readable from a distance.

  • Meditation and breathing

Choose Silent for a quiet five-minute reset or breathing session. The numbers still reach zero without interrupting the room with a chime.

Online timer questions

Is this online timer free?

Yes. It is free to use without an account, download, or payment. You can keep up to 12 timers in this browser at a time.

Do I need to install anything or sign up?

No. It runs in your browser on a phone, tablet, laptop or desktop. Open this page, enter a time and press Start.

How do I set an online timer?

Set a duration, choose an alarm sound, and start the countdown.

  1. Enter hours, minutes, and seconds, or choose a common duration. Expand “How to start timers · Common timer lengths” below to edit and save ten presets on this device.
  2. Use the shared settings in the header to choose a sound, adjust volume, preview it, or mute alarms.
  3. Press Start. Pause and Resume remain available; Reset returns the timer to its original duration.

Can I set a timer for more than an hour?

Each timer can run from 1 second up to 99 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds.

What happens if I switch to another tab?

The timer keeps counting down while this tab stays open and your device stays awake. It uses the target time rather than adding interval ticks, so background throttling does not slow the countdown. Your browser must allow audio for the alarm to sound.

Does the timer keep running if I close the tab?

The countdown cannot play a sound while the tab is closed. When browser storage is available, the timer is saved on this device and resumes from its end time when you reopen the page. If it ended more than 5 minutes ago, it is marked finished without playing a late alarm.

Can I run more than one timer at once?

You can keep up to 12 timers on the page. They run independently, so switching between them does not stop the others. Start each one manually, or expand “How to start timers · Common timer lengths” below to start all together or in sequence. Use the arrows to change their order.

Can I save my own timer presets?

Expand “How to start timers · Common timer lengths” below, choose Edit, enter ten different whole-minute durations from 1 to 1440, and choose Save presets. They are stored in this browser on this device and remain after you close the tab.

Can I use it full screen for a classroom or meeting?

Yes. Press Full screen above the display to show large digits, then press Escape to return to the page.
